So I'm off on another idea. Not sure how it's going to work out, but I'm going to do a couple of tests and see where it goes. I am disillusioned with the work I've been doing. Way too high of a failure rate and too many results I just don't like. I'm just not willing to invest the time into work that I am so often unhappy with. While I know there is always going to be some uncertainty and risk involved, I at least think I'd like to drive wearing a seat belt. So, I am making an effort to simplify things. This cup is a little washed out in the photo, but gives an idea of where I am heading. When I begin my next round of pots I might try and add some texture of some kind to the outside for the glaze to pick up. Keepin it very simple. Two glazes (this cup is two) Maybe three max if it keeps it simple with a little bumping up. It's been fun trying different things, but too much going on. Don't try and talk me down, cause I'm not coming off the ledge.

I love the cup, I love the last line of your post, and I have so been (am) there (on the ledge).
I have been catching up on your blog and it sounds like the Stonepools didn't work out with the cracking problem. They seemed like a really inspired idea. Damn. This pottery business requires such determination. And passion. (And I read in an earlier post that you are considering a possible job... There's no shame in getting a paycheck job so that you don't have to rely solely on your pottery... Sure gives those of us who go that route more "breathing room." ) Whatever you decide, I hope that you keep on keeping on!
I love your work - no matter what you are doing it's full of creativity - so I'm sure your new path will be just as inspiring. I am also sitting near that ledge & in definite 'test' mode. I find I'm excited to get to my studio again - and hope you find that as well.
On the other side of these times of crisis is when you'll find your best work.
Hi L, P, and J. some good thoughts. I really don't want to have to get another job because I know my work will suffer. My dedication to this work fades away quickly once faced with employment elsewhere. It's time consuming and there is a lot of competition for my time. I am really looking forward to simplifying things. Sort of going back to my roots a little.

hey deborah, are your stonepools still raw, if so you may be able to compress the clay with a round ended tool in small circular motions... give it a go..
